We are pleased to report that over the past years, VISTEC has further continued to keep focus on nurturing and recruiting highly qualified faculty and staff, on creating new frontier science, on inventing cutting edge methodologies, functional materials and useful products.
Our research thrusts on Next-Generation Energy, and Advanced Functional Materials will strengthen VISTEC's position as a key hub of innovative education, frontier science, engineering, and innovation for nation’s demand and global challenges.
2017 was a good year for VISTEC.
Our faculty members and scientists made the large contribution to high-quality research included in the nature publishing index, which keeps track of research discovery at high quality and high impact.
For all subjects of science, VISTEC jumps 5 places to be ranked second in Thailand surpassed only by Chulalongkorn University while Mahidol University comes third.
More importantly, Nature Publishing Group has updated the latest nature index in chemical sciences, ranking VISTEC as the 4th in ASEAN's top universities only ranked behind the big three universities in Singapore (Nanyang Technological University, The National University of Singapore, and The Singapore University of Technology and Design) and the 1st rank in Thailand.
The launch of the School of Biomolecular Science and Engineering (BSE) fully supported by Kasikorn Bank Public Company Limited (KBank), and the School of Information Science and Technology (IST) fully supported by Siam Commercial Bank Public Company Limited (SCB) in close collaboration with industry and government sectors will significantly expand and deepen immense value for Thailand initiative megaprojects Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) in general and Eastern Economic Corridor of Innovation (EECi) in particular.
VISTEC aims to boost competitiveness of the country and improve people’s quality of life employing science, engineering and innovation focusing on research Megatrends regarding Energy, Advanced materials, Bioscience and biotechnology, and Digital and thus will also significantly contribute for Thailand 4.0.
In research, VISTEC has further enhanced "high quality and high impact" frontier research. We have magnetized passionate faculty and research clusters across disciplines to tackle national initiatives and global challenges.
These research clusters cover energy, materials science, biotechnology, bio-inspired robotic and data science and engineering and thus enhance VISTEC to support new national initiatives.
In order to speed up the transfer of new frontier discoveries to considerable uses, the best ties between basic and applied research must be achieved.
To this end, we have pursued synergistic partnerships with industry in certain important areas, such as energy storage, materials science, nano-and biotechnology, and data science, and explicitly promotes frontier research at the interface between applied and basic research. University-industry collaboration will allow our faculty members, researchers, staffs and students to work closely with real users on industry challenges and build up clusters of creative scientists and engineers to meet future challenges.
In making a world class university, unwavering contributions and support of private and government sectors namely founding members of PTT groups [PTT, PTTGC, PTTEP, ThaiOil, IRPC, GPSC], passionate donors KBank, SCB, and Bangchak, funding agencies as well as our faculty, students, staffs, benefactors, partners, and friends of VISTEC have played a vital role in our achievements and success.
I would like to thank you very deeply on behalf of VISTEC for those who have kindly contributed over the past years especially members of VISTEC’s Council Committee, Executive Committee, Academic Committee, HR Committee, and Finance & Budget subcommittee.
With continued contributions and support from private and government sectors, we look forward with a great confidence to pursuing our vision as a leading national and global hub of science and innovation centered in Wangchan Valley, Rayong.
